Play and Learn Sessions
The Play & Learn sessions are for our Prep class of 2024 and their parents.
Come along and get to know each other, learn about our school routines, engage in stories, songs and activities together and have some fun along the way!
When: Every second Tuesday beginning starting in Term 3
Where: Darra State School Prep Classroom
Time: – 9am-10am
What to Bring: – Hat and water bottle
Parents or caregivers must stay with your child for the session.

What is Pre-Prep
At Darra State School, we highly value the time before your child begins their schooling journey. It is crucial to us that our children have ample opportunities to familiarize themselves with our routines, expectations, and environment before officially starting school.
Our Pre-Prep program aims to achieve the following for your child:
- Establish familiarity with our school's routines, expectations, and environment.
- Foster the development of early language skills.
- Engage in activities that promote gross and fine motor skills.
- Cultivate positive relationships with other children who will be starting Prep alongside them.
- Interact with adults within the school context.
- Create positive associations with school, ensuring a smooth emotional transition to Prep.
In addition to the Pre-Prep program sessions, children from local kindergartens receive regular invitations to participate in school events. As parents, this program offers you the opportunity to:
- Connect with other parents who have children in your child's cohort.
- Receive useful tips to facilitate a carefree transition for your child.
- Develop confidence in our supportive school environment.
- Have your questions about schooling answered.
A message from our teachers:
We are excited to spend this year together, learning, playing, and preparing for school. Your active involvement as a parent is crucial to this process. Please note that phones are not allowed during our group sessions, and your child must be supervised at all times. Additionally, siblings (both younger and older) cannot attend Pre-Prep, as we want to focus on your child's readiness for school. Thank you for your understanding.
