DATE CLAIMER – ‘EARLY YEARS LITERACY AT DARRA STATE SCHOOL’ (PREP TO YEAR 3)

Parents of Prep to Year 3 You’re Invited
On Thursday 16th March, we will be holding a workshop for parents where we can connect and share how Prep to Year 3 students learn important aspects of the reading process.

This workshop is for all parents and will cover reading at school, reading at home and how we can work together to ensure your child is reaching his/her potential.  The workshop will cover: the ‘Big 6’ of reading acquisition:
1.      Oral Language – how clear and confident speech assists in the reading progress
2.     Phonemic Awareness – the ability to break words into parts using sounds and how this is taught at Darra SS
3.     Phonics – learning sounds that groups of letters make and why this is important
4.     Vocabulary – how to build vocabulary in students of all ages
5.     Fluency – how we can all assist students in becoming fluent readers
6.     Comprehension – the importance of being able to understand what you read

We are offering a day and evening session of the ‘Early Years Literacy at Darra SS Workshop’:
Option 1: Thursday 16 March 2pm – 3pm
Option 2: Thursday 16 March 6pm – 7pm

This is a great opportunity to connect with teaching and learning at Darra State School – we’d love for you to join us. NOTES FOR THIS EVENT WILL BE SENT HOME FRIDAY 10 MARCH 2017.
